DIY Tangled Pin the Tail Game

DIY Tangled Pin the Tail Game

In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make a simple DIY Tangled pin the tail game. Rapunzel was the birthday theme my daughter chose for her most recent birthday, so I tried to make it as Rapunzel-ly as I could in the short amount of time I had. Luckily, I had some help from an amazing painter for the poster board or else I wouldn’t have finished in time! It felt like finals week where you wake up to start working on everything that’s due and keep working long into the night, may even skip some much needed naps (and showers!) But we do what we can for our children, especially when they’re young because they probably won’t want anything to do with us when they get older. At least this was an easier project out of the other Rapunzel birthday crafts I did. How to make a Rapunzel Pin the Tail Game

What you need:

  • A white poster board
  • Paints, colored pencils, or markers
  • Yellow Yarn (I got mine on Amazon here)
  • Packing Tape, Duct Tape, or Double Sided Tape
  • (Optional)- Felt to make flowers for the yarn braids

Rapunzel Poster Board

Step 1:

On your white poster board, use a pencil to lightly draw your Rapunzel picture as well as you can. Use pencil so you can erase any mistakes! I did a google search and used this picture here. I was lucky enough to have a very talented artist draw mine, however I have copied over pictures for previous birthday parties before copying with a pencil. If you are still not confident in your drawing skills, open the picture in Paint and go to Print -> Page Setup. Under Scaling select Fit To and change the setting to “2 by 2 pages” or whatever size you desire. Now you can simply trace it on. Or you can always go to a store like Kinkos to do it for you.

Step 2:

Either paint, or color it with marker or colored pencils. Mine was painted, but I colored the one I did for last years birthday with colored pencil because I do not trust myself painting inside the lines. I am no artist! Markers would work very well too.

Yarn Braids

Step 1:

The braids are super simple. Get something long and flat that you can wrap the yarn around multiple times. I used my big sewing ruler that my daughter stepped on, so with it broken it measured about 17-inches. I wrapped it around multiple times till it had the thickness that I wanted. Cut at one end.Wrap yarn around ruler

Step 2:

Cut a little piece of yarn about 5-inches long. On the opposite end of your yarn-hair that you didn’t cut, tie the little piece of yarn on about 1 or 2-inches down. This is where your tape will go.Tie Yarn-hair

Step 3:

Split the yarn into 3 equal pieces and braid like you normally would on real hair. Cut another small piece of yarn and tie it at the end of your braid.Rapunzel Yarn Braids

Felt Flowers for Braids

Step 1:

Print out a flower petal shape that you want. I used this image here. Cut them out and pin them to your felt and cut out 10 petals from your choice colored felt.PetalsPetals cut out

Step 2:

Cut a very small circle or square shape from felt and use hot glue to glue 5 petals on side by side into a circle shape. Then hot glue 5 more petals on top, putting each of the top petals between the gaps of the bottom petals.Felt Flower Petals

Step 3:

Cut a rectangle shape out of your desired center color for the middle of your flower. Mine was about 1-inch wide and 5-inches long. Cut lines down the rectangle very close together going to almost the end. Do not cut all the way through! Then roll it up going from one short end to the other to get your flower center.Flower center

Step 4:

Glue it in the center of your felt flower and if you want you can add a rhinestone or pearl in the middle of your flower center with hot glue.Finished Felt Flower

Step 5:

Now glue it on to the top of your Rapunzel yarn braids. Make different colors so each child knows which one is theirs! Now you just need to put tape at the very top back of the braids. I just used packing tape rolled together and it kept them up.Finished Rapunzel Braids

That’s all there is to it. The felt flowers are optional but it puts a cute touch to the braids to differentiate between braids when the kids put them on the poster. Your child and their friends will love this game, mine did! Now you just need a blindfold and you’re ready to go!DIY Tangled Pin the Tail Game
