DIY Barbie Wet Wipes

How to make Barbie Wet Wipes DIY

My daughters obsession with Barbie is real. She had a barbie or 2 to begin with, but the fixation started after she discovered Barbie videos on YouTube. Now Barbie is her world! She now has more Barbies than I can count, Barbie clothes, and tons of tiny little accessories that I’m always stepping on and hurting my feet. Still, she needs more little items for her Barbie’s that I can’t find in stores, so I do what any mom would do and make these miniature items myself. Sometimes it’s successful, other times it’s an utter disaster!

This time she wanted Barbie wet wipes for her little baby Barbie doll. My first attempt involves index cards and mod podge. However, the wet wipes soaked through the paper so it was a fail. Then it was actually my daughter who found some random empty plastic wrapper that was the perfect size. I honestly could not tell you what the wrapper was for originally, but it looked similar to small candy wrappers, or even the wrappers wrapped around LOL! Dolls. This attempt was a success which i will share with you through this tutorial.

Step 1:

Find an empty wrapper that is about 2-inches long (mine was 2 1/4 inch long), or you can even use a plastic shopping bag that has thicker plastic then your average grocery bag.

Step 2:

Cut a straight line on the longer side that has already been ripped to make a width of about 1-inch (mine was 1 1/4 inch). If using a plastic bag, cut a rectangle out about 2 1/4 inches wide and 4 1/2 long.

Step 3: Fold the top of your wrapper in half and cut a half oval shape on the fold so it makes a full oval when you release the fold. If using a plastic bag, fold it in half and do the same thing.

Step 4:

Now get a wet wipe or damp paper towel, and cut it into small rectangles or squares that are about a half-inch big on all sides. Then lay them out overlapping the other to the midway point of the other. I made about 8 in total so it wouldn’t be too big. Fold them accordion style and put inside your wrapper or bag, pulling one wipe out sp it sticks out a little.

Step 5:

Now it is time to seal those raw edges together. I closed the 2 raw edges together and used a lighter, not too close, to melt the edges together. I didn’t get a perfectly straight line like I had hoped, but it was still pretty good after lighting it more. Luckily for you, you can learn from my mistakes. I recommend either using a lighter to heat a knife or pair of scissors then cutting as close as you can to the raw edge and that heat will both seal the raw edges together and give you a straight line. Or you can lay aluminum foil over your raw edges and iron over it to keep a nice, straight line, just make sure not to iron over the wipes!. If using a plastic bag, you will need to seal the all raw edges, top and bottom as well.

You can stop here, like I did, or you can continue to make a resealable cover over the oval. My daughter would never use it so I didn’t do this step, but if you do it is super easy. Just cut out a different color plastic in an oval just a bit bigger than the oval you cut in your wipes. Tape over it so the tape hangs over both sides, and cut the tape to size.

Done! Now you have cute little mini wet wipes for Barbie!
